Game One

From the whistle this was clearly going to be a tough game. We started the game well with a number of shots on goal but as the game progressed Fry’s got themselves back in the game helped to a certain extent by some dubious refereeing decisions. Louis Pettiford gave their defence headaches and the only way they could stop him was by bringing him down. Unfortunately the ref didn’t see it that way and we had 2 good penalty shouts and a number of free kicks brushed away. The game ended 0 – 0 although we should have won it if all things had been equal!!

Game Two

Longwell were clearly the better team in this game but despite some good possession football we were unable to get the early goal we deserved. Fry’s only form of attack was via the big kick from their goal keeper but Jaz stood firm and dealt with pretty much everything that came her way. At halftime it was 0 – 0. The second half was barely under way and we broke forward and got a well earned goal with Thomas sliding the ball under the diving keeper. The second half continued much as the first until Fry’s got awarded a penalty with 10 minutes to go. Louis saved the penalty but Fry’s scored from the rebound. 2 minutes later we had cleared our lines when a Fry’s player controlled the ball on the halfway line with his hand. This was “missed” by the ref and they scored their second from the pass that resulted from the handball. This just wasn’t going to be our day and despite Longwell being the better team we didn’t get our reward with a win.

We can’t fault the players, they did all they could to produce the required result but it was clear from the first whistle it was always going to be an uphill struggle!!
